Manchester City needed win against West Brom for confidence ---- Guardiola

Manchester City needed to end their six-game winless streak to regain confidence, manager Pep Guardiola admitted after the 4-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan each scored twice as City won their first game in October and ended a run of three straight defeats away from home.
Guardiola said City had been playing well during their poor run of results, but conceded it was a relief to secure the three points to keep his side on top of the Premier League.
“After six games without winning we needed that for the head,” he told a news conference. “The problem when you don’t win a game or lose a game is not the three points, it’s that you miss a little bit of confidence for the next one.
“And that’s happened in that period because we played quite well but of course when you don’t win your argument about how many good things you did sounds like excuses. When you win you are right and when you don’t win you look for excuses, which is why it is so important to win the game.”
Aguero also ended his own barren spell of six games without a goal as he scored twice in the first half — his second a spectacular 20-yard strike that curled into the top corner.

Guardiola was delighted with his performance and said he is a vital player for City’s title challenge.
“Sergio is so important for us, we don’t have too many strikers,” he added. “Gabriel Jesus is coming in December-January, maybe he is going to help us a lot, but now in that moment we have Kelechi [Iheanacho] and Sergio. Kelechi is a young, young player, a huge talent, but he is young, he has to learn a lot.
“Sergio is a special player, I would like to convince him how important he is for us. We need him, we need him a lot, and when he is in that behaviour, he is hungry, in that moment he is decisive. He is part of the story of this club and we want to help him to be bigger and bigger and part of this fantastic club.”
Aguero’s future was called into question when he was surprisingly left out of the starting lineup for City’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.
Asked if he will restart the return clash at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, Guardiola joked: “I think so. But I’m not going to tell you in which position he’s going to play. I explained the reason why to Sergio and I say again — we didn’t win, I am guilty.”
